Alabama Flag
The Alabama flag was adopted by the state legislature on February 16, 1895. The flag of Alabama has the colors red and white and its design is in the form of St. Andrew's Cross. It is similar to the Cross of Burgundy flag (a historical Spanish flag) and the flag of Saint Patrick (which serves as part of the design of the British Union Jack). Some believe the current design is reminiscent of the Confederate Battle Flag[1].

  Alabama Coat of Arms
The Alabama Coat of Arms contains symbols from five different countries: Spain, France, Great Britain, The Confederate States of America, and The United States of America. It was designed in 1923 by B.J. Tieman. A ship is depicted on top of the crest, representing the Badine, which is the ship that brought French colonists who were the first Europeans to permanently settle the area[2].
