Amsterdam Flag
The flag of Amsterdam was adopted on February 5, 1975. It it features three horizontal bars. The two outer bars are red and the inner bar is black. Three white St. Andrew's Crosses are depicted inside of the black bar. Although the origins and meanings of the colors are unclear, some state that they are derived from the coat of arms of the Persijn family, which once owned large pieces of land in the area[1].
