Auckland Coat of Arms
The coat of arms of Auckland, New Zealand was created on October 23, 1911 by the College of Arms in Great Britain. The shield depicts a sailing ship, which represents the cities relationship to the sea, a pick and shovel, which represents the mining that takes place in the city, and a cornucopia, which reflects the wealth and agriculture of the region. The shield is supported by two apterix, or kiwi birds, which are national symbols of New Zealand. The motto in the scroll on the bottom is "Advance"[1].
