Australia Federation Flag (1831)
The Australia Federation Flag was designed by Captain John Nicholson in 1831. It featured a blue St. George's Cross set on a white background, with a Union Jack in the canton. Inside of the cross, five white stars were depicted, resembling the Southern Cross constellation (which is easily visible from the southern hemisphere). The flag became more popular during the later part of the nineteenth century as more people supported the idea of a federation[1].
