Betsy Ross Flag
The Betsy Ross Flag is a famous early version of the flag of the United States of America. It features a red-and-white striped field with white stars, in the shape of a circle, in a blue canton. It is said to have been designed by Betsy Ross during the American Revolution. Legend has it that a small committee of men, including George Washington, visited her on July 4th, 1776 requesting that she sew the flag. Although this story is legendary and widely accepted by the American public, historians dispute its authenticity. Alfred B. Street described it at the surrender of General Burgoyne and held that the circle of stars to represent equality among the American states. The Second Continental Congress passed a Flag Resolution on June 14, 1777, establishing it as the first official flag of the United States[1].
