Darwin Coat of Arms
The coat of arms of Darwin, Australia was granted to the city by Queen Elizabeth II on December 9, 1959. Its shield is divided into four sections. One section depicts an encircled star, which is derived from the coat of arms of Charles Darwin, from whom the city takes its name. Another section depicts a old style propeller, which represents the fact that Darwin was used as an early airport. Another section depicts a sailing ship on the ocean, which signifies Darwin's importance as a port city. Lastly, a gateway with masonry that depicts several crosses is depicted and is symbolic of the important role the Church played in the development of the city. The shield is supported by an Australian Aborigine and a European miner[1].
