Erin Go Bragh Flag
Although commonly referred to as the "Erin Go Bragh Flag", this flag is actually called the Saint Patrick's Battalion Flag. Saint Patrick's Battalion was a small military unit of 175 European immigrants and expatriates who fought alongside the Mexican Army against the United States during the Mexican American War from 1846 to 1848, most of whom has deserted from the U.S. Army. It primarily consisted of Irish and German Catholics. Although, no known depiction of the battalion's flag has survived, there are several somewhat conflicting primary accounts of what the flag looked like. The account of John Riley became the most popular. He state: "In all my letter, I forgot to tell you under what banner we fought so bravely. It was that glorious Emblem of native rights, that being the banner which should have floated over our native Soil many years ago, it was St. Patrick, the Harp of Erin, the Shamrock upon a green field."[1].
