France Flag
The flag of France, or French Flag, is a vertical tricolour consisting of three equal bands of colored blue, white, and red. It was adopted in 1790, but a modified design by Jacques-Louis David was adopted on February 15, 1794. The Paris militia, who played a significant role in the storming of the Bastille, wore a red and blue cockade (a ribbon on a hat), as these were the traditional colors of the city. White, the "ancient French color" was added to create the tricolour. The color blue had been identified with Saint Martin and the color red had been identified with Saint Denis[1].

  French Emblem
The current national and unofficial Emblem of France was adopted in 1953, but has been in use since 1912 when it was used on the cover of French passports. It was designed by sculptor Jules-Clément Chaplain. It is not a coat of arms technically, as heraldry was considered an aristocratic art form used during the Ancien Regime. It features a wide shield with an eagle's head on one end and a lion's head on the other end. The letters RF are depicted inside of the shield, which stand for "République Française" (French Republic). It also depicts a fasces, a bundle of rods and an axe, a Roman symbol of justice, as well as an oak branch, which symbolize wisdom, and olive branches, which represent victory[2].
