Hong Kong Coat of Arms (1959)
This is the colonial coat of arms of Hong Kong that was used between 1959-1997. The shield is supported by a yellow lion and yellow dragon, which symbolize the British and Chinese influences of the nation, respectively. The shield itself is divided into two sections. The lower section depicts two Chinese ships known as junks, which are symbolic of the importance of the trade industry. The upper section features a gold naval crown on a red background, which represent Hong Kong's ties with the Navy and the Merchant Navy, and commemorate the Battle of Hong Kong during World War II. A lion, wearing an imperial crown and holding a pearl, is depicted atop the shield, which represents the nation's nickname "The Pearl of the Orient"[1].
