Alabama Flag (1861)
On January 11, 1961, the Alabama Secession Convention officially adopted the first state flag of Alabama. It was designed by several women from Montgomery, including Francis Corra. It features the Goddess of Liberty holding a sword and flag featuring the word "Alabama". The flag is emblazoned with the motto "Independent Now and Forever"[1].
