Kanaka Maoli Flag

The Kanaka Maoli Flag (meaning "true people" in Hawaiian) is believed by some to be the original flag of the Kingdom of Hawaii. The red, green, and yellow stripes are said to be the colors of King Kamehameha III. The flag was said to have been destroyed by British Naval Captain Lord George Paulet who captured it in 1843. A green shield in the center of the flag depicts two yellow paddles, which are symbolic of the sailing tradition of the Hawaiian people. The nine stripes represent the nine inhabited islands of Hawaii. It is said that green represents the common people, goodness, and land, red represents the middle class and strength, and yellow represents spirituality and alertness[1].
