Egypt Flag (1805-1922)
This historical Egyptian flag is the flag of the Khedivate of Egypt from 18671881 and also the Sultanate of Egypt from 19141922. To demonstrate his autonomy from the Ottoman Empire, then ruler Muhammed Ali created a new Egyptian flag that depicted three white crescents and three white stars on a red background. It is believed that Ali used three of each to symbolize the victory of his armies in three continents (Africa, Asia, and Europe), and also his own sovereignty over Egypt, Sudan, and Hejaz. Some speculated that he designed a flag similar to the Ottoman flag to signal his ambitions to overthrow the Ottoman dynasty[1].
