Lancashire Coat of Arms
The coat of arms of Lancashire was granted in 1903. It features a shield supported by two lions, each wearing a vaire collar from which hangs a shield of arms. The shield itself depicts three gold piles (the middle one reversed) on a red field. Each pile is charged with a red rose. A white scroll below the arms contains the motto "In Concilio Consilium", meaning "In council is wisdom". The lions are derived from the arms of the Ferrers, Earls of Derby, who owned land in the 13th century between the Ribble and Mersey[1].
