Lisbon Coat of Arms
The coat of arms of the city of Lisbon (or Lisboa), Portugal features a golden shield that depicts a ship sailing over a sea of alternating white and silver wavy lines. Ravens are located on each end of the ship. A golden mural crown of five towers is located atop the shield. The collar of the Order of the Tower and Sword hands from the shield. A banner below the shield reads "MUI NOBRE E SEMPRE LEAL CIDADE DE LISBOA", which means "most noble and always loyal city of Lisbon". The symbols derive from the fact that King Afonso Henriques had the body of St. Vincent of Saragossa transported to Lisbon by ship in 1173. Legend had it that ravens protected his body after he was martyred[1].
