Magdeburg Coat of Arms
The coat of arms of Magdeburg, Germany features a red castle with black mortar on a silver shield. The golden door of the gate is open and the black portcullis is raised. A maiden (or virgin) in a green dress, holding a green wreath in her right hand is depicted above the castle. The seal dates back to the 13th century and was first mentioned in 1244. The arms are derived from the city's name sake Magd (maiden) and Burg (castle)[1].
