Maranhao Flag
The flag of Maranhao, Brazil was adopted on December 21, 1889 and was designed by Joaquim de Souza Andrade. It consists of a field of alternating red, white, and black stripes, which symbolize the different ethnic groups present in the state. The canton features a white star, symbolizing Beta Scorpii, on a blue background[1].
