New Brunswick Flag
The flag of New Brunswick is similar to the province's coat of arms and was adopted on February 24, 1965. It is divided into two parts. The smaller upper portion features a yellow lion on a red field, which symbolizes ties to both England and Braunschweig, Germany. The larger lower portion depicts a Spanish galley sailing on a sea of alternating white and blue horizontal wavy lines, and is representative of the ship building industry, which was an industry of historic significance to the province[1].

  New Brunswick Coat of Arms
The coat of arms of New Brunswick features a shield divided into two sections. The upper section depicts a yellow lion on a red background, which is symbolic of England. The lower section depicts a sailing ship, or ancient galley, on a sea of alternating white and blue wavy horizontal lines, which is symbolic of province's maritime history. The shield is supported by a white-tailed deer, who wears a collar from which a shield containing the Union Jack hands, and another white-tailed deer, who wears a dollar from which a blue shield containing three yellow fleur-de-lis hangs. A motto below the shield reads "SPEM REDUXIT", meaning "Hope was restored". The crest is a leaping Atlantic salmon, wearing a St. Edward's crown, who sits on top of a golden helmet. The arms were originally adopted on May 26, 1868 and were later augmented in 1966 and 1984[2].
