Newfoundland Flag
The flag of Newfoundland was designed by Christopher Pratt and adopted on May 28, 1980. The flag, nicknamed "The Golden Shaft", is set on a white field. The hoist side of the flag features blue triangles arranged to recall the Union Jack, an homage to the British heritage of the province. The fly side of the flag features two red triangles, which represent the mainland and island of the province, as well as a yellow arrow or sword, that represents the province's bright future as well as the sacrifices of military heroes[1].

  Newfoundland Coat of Arms
The coat of arms of Newfoundland features a red shield divided into four quadrants by a white cross. The upper left and lower right quadrants depict yellow lions, whereas the upper right and lower left quadrants depict white unicorns. The lions represents England and the unicorn represents Scotland, as these are the beasts that support the arms of the Monarch. The shield is supported by two Beothuk which are representative of Newfoundland's indigenous people. A scroll at the bottom contains a biblical reference from Matthew 6:33 "Quaerite prime Regnum Dei", meaning "Seek ye first the kingdom of God". The arms were granted by King Charles I of England on November 13, 1638[2].
