The flag of North Carolina contains a blue union and a fly that consists of two horizontal bars of red and white that are equal in length. A single white star is depicted in the center of the union, with the letter N located to the left and the letter C located to the right of this star. A banner containing the date May 20th, 1775 (the date of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence) is depicted above this. A banner containing the date April 12th, 1776 (the date of the Halifax Resolves) is depicted below this[1].

This was the historical flag of North Carolina that was adopted on June 22, 1861, which was shortly after its secession from the Union and was used until 1885. It featured a red union and a fly that consisted of two red and white horizontal bands of size. A large single white star was depicted in the middle of the union. Above this, the date May 20, 1775 (the date of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence) was depicted. Below this, the date May 20, 1861 (the date of secession) was depicted[2].
