  Persian Coat of Arms
The coat of arms of Persia, or Persian coat of arms, was the official emblem used by the nation from 1423 until 1907. It features the Lion and Sun motif that combines ancient Iranian, Arab, Turkish, and Mongol influences. The symbol derives from astrology, as the configuration is based on the ancient zodiacal sign of the sun in the house of Leo, a symbol which dates back to Babylonian astrology and Near Eastern traditions. It took on a Shi'ite interpretation during the Safavid and Qajar dynasties, as the Lion and Sun became representative of the state and religion[2].
