Ponce Coat of Arms
The coat of arms of the city of Ponce, Puerto Rico derives from the mayoral seal adopted in 1844 and first used by Salvador de Vives. The shield is split diagonally between a black and red section. An erect lion (representing Juan Ponce de Leon) is depicted in the center of the shield standing on a bridge. A five-tower golden stone wall (representing the Spanish Crown) with open windows sits atop the shield. The shield is flanked by a coffee tree branch and a sugar cane stalk, which represent agriculture[1].
