Transylvania Coat of Arms (19th Century)
This is the historical coat of arms of Transylvania that was adopted in 1659. The upper portion of the shield depicts a black turul, with a gold bill and red tongue, on a blue field, which is representative of the mainly Magyar medieval nobility. A sun is depicted to the left of the turul and a moon is located to the right, which represents the Szeklers. Below this is a red horizontal band. The lower portion of the shield depicts seven red towers on a gold field, which represent the seven fortified cities of the Transylvanian Saxons[1].
