Trondheim Coat of Arms
This is the coat of arms of Trondheim, Norway. The earliest documentation of the design being used on a document is 1344, however it is thought that it originated earlier in the 13th century. On the left, it depicts a church portal with an archbishop with a staff and a mitre. On the right, it depicts a castle portal with a king wearing a crown and holding a set of scales. The king symbolizes the city's status as the first capital of Norway. The archbishop symbolizes the fact that the city was the residence of the archbishop. The scales represents justice and the delicate balance between church and state. Three heads are depicted at the bottom of the shield, which are thought to represent the city council[1].
