United Tribes of New Zealand Flag
The flag of the United Tribes of New Zealand was adopted on March 9, 1834. It featured a red St. George's cross on a white field. The canton consisted of a blue field, with a St. George's cross fimbriated in white and four eight pointed white stars. It was designed bymissionary Henry Williams and selected by Maori chiefs. It was a symbol of the independence declared by the Maori chiefs at Waitangi in 1835[1].
