Virgina Flag
The flag of Virginia was adopted on January 31, 1861. It depicts the state's seal in the center of a blue field. The seal depicts a woman,"Virtus the genius of the Commonwealth, dressed as an Amazo", standing above a prostrate man who represents tyranny, as his crown is depicted fallen. The tyrant holds a chain and a scourge. The Latin motto "Sic semper tyrannis" at the bottom of the shield translates to "Thus Always to Tyrants", a quote attributed to Brutus during the assassination of Julius Caesar in Rome[1].
