Warsaw Coat of Arms
The coat of arms of Warsaw depicts a little mermaid (syrenka) on a red shield. The syrenka is often depicted wielding a sword and holding a shield. The image dates back to the 14th century and were used by the city beginning in 1622. According to legend, Melusina from the from the River Vistula, led Duke Bolesław II of Masovia (12621313) to a fishing village and instructed him to found the city of Warsaw there[1].
